How to Pay Pag-IBIG MP2 Using GrabPay and a Credit Card (No 1.75% Fee)

Want to Use a Credit Card for MP2 Without the Extra Charge?

If you’ve ever tried paying your Pag-IBIG MP2 savings using your credit card directly through Virtual Pag-IBIG, you’ve probably noticed that there’s a 1.75% convenience fee. Ouch.

But don’t worry—there’s a legit workaround that lets you still use your credit card, earn points or cashback, and skip that pesky extra charge.

How? Through a simple trick using GrabPay and the QR code from Virtual Pag-IBIG.

The Workaround: Use GrabPay and Pay via QR Code

Here’s how this method works:

  1. Generate a QR code from Virtual Pag-IBIG
  2. Cash in to your GrabPay wallet using your Visa credit card
  3. Use GrabPay to scan and pay via the QR code

Instead of using your card directly (which triggers the 1.75% fee), you’re loading GrabPay with your card and letting it pay Pag-IBIG through the QR—usually with no convenience fee or just a minimal charge (₱5 if any).

Note: this only works for Visa since there’s no fee to cash in using a Visa card. On the other hand, GrabPay now charges a 2% fee when you cash in using a Mastercard.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Generate a QR Code from Virtual Pag-IBIG

  • Visit Virtual Pag-IBIG
  • Under Pay Online, choose MP2 Savings
  • Fill in your MP2 account number, name, amount, etc.
  • On the final payment screen, click “QR Code”
  • Download or screenshot the QR code (this will be used in GrabPay)

Step 2: Cash In to GrabPay Using Your Visa Credit Card

  • Open your Grab app
  • Tap “Balance“, then “Cash In”, then choose Cards
  • Enter the amount you need for your MP2 payment + 5 pesos for the convenience fee for the QR payment later on
  • Confirm the transaction

Step 3: Pay Using the QR Code

  • Back in the Grab app, tap “Scan”
  • Scan the QR code you saved from Virtual Pag-IBIG
  • Confirm the amount and complete the payment

Does This Really Work?

Yes. Maraming Pinoy investors have used this method to:

  • Avoid the 1.75% card convenience fee
  • Earn credit card points or cashback
  • Enjoy a longer billing cycle on their card

It’s a neat little trick that can save you money in the long run, especially if you’re topping up your MP2 monthly.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Bypass the 1.75% card fee
  • Use your credit card safely via GrabPay
  • Easy and fast once you set it up
  • Just a flat ₱5 fee (if any)

Cons:

  • Not all cards are supported for GrabPay cash-in
  • GrabPay has daily/monthly payment limits
  • Make sure you scan the QR code before it expires (usually within a few minutes)

Final Thoughts

This GrabPay workaround is one of the easiest ways to pay MP2 using a credit card while avoiding unnecessary fees. Kung tipid din ang hanap mo pero gusto mong gamitin ang credit card mo for rewards, then this trick is definitely worth a try.

No shady hacks—just using what’s already available to our advantage.
