Note: this lifehack no longer works for a Mastercard.

I’m sure you’ve thought of using your credit card to pay for your MP2 contribution but have considered not doing it because of the hefty 1.75% convenience fee.

Before I share the life hack, first consider using a credit card to pay for your MP2 contribution ONLY IF you’re going to pay the money you’ll borrow in full before the due date. Kasi kung di mo rin babayaran ang CC mo before due date, walang silbi ang life hack na to since malaki ang interest ng CC. Kumbaga, ang tip na to is kung gusto mo lang maghulog in advance gamit CC mo instead of waiting for available cash-on-hand.

So what’s the life hack?

It’s actually simple but you will need 2 devices for this to work.

  1. Cash In into GrabPay the amount you want to pay for your MP2 using your credit card. Make sure to add 5 pesos on top of the amount because that will be used for the convenience fee.
  2. Using a different device (computer or another mobile phone), go to the Virtual Pag-IBIG website to process your payment.
  3. Select GCash/Maya for the payment method. For the steps, you can follow this guide.
  4. Then on the page where you have the options for the eWallet to use, select QRPh. This will give you a QR code.
  5. On your first device where you have the Grab app, tap on Scan to Pay. Then scan the QR code shown on the other device to process the payment. Since the transaction is using QRPh, the convenience fee is only 5 pesos.

And there you have it! You have successfully paid for your MP2 contribution using a credit card with just a 5-peso convenience fee.
