Choosing between grocery cashback and travel miles used to mean choosing one Maya credit card. Not anymore. Maya Bank has introduced a shared credit limit for eligible customers who hold both the Landers Cashback Everywhere Credit Card and the Maya Black Credit Card. Here is how it works, who can apply, and what to watch out for.
What Changed With Maya Credit Cards?
Earlier this year, the rule was simple: Maya allowed only one credit card per customer, so you could hold a Landers card or a Maya Black card, but not both. I covered this in my Maya Black Credit Card review, and many Landers cardholders just saw a “Not Eligible” status when they looked for Maya Black in the app.
That has changed. According to the Maya Help Center, starting September 2026, if you already have a Maya Credit Card, you may apply for a second Maya Credit Card with a shared credit limit, subject to the bank’s approval.
How the Shared Credit Limit Works
You do not get two separate credit lines. The available credit is combined across both cards, and purchases on either one are deducted from the same total limit. In other words, getting a second card does not come with another credit limit.
Maya’s credit limit guide says eligible customers may qualify for a limit of up to 3x their monthly income, subject to credit evaluation, and that all purchases, fees, and other transactions from your cards come out of the one shared limit.
The cards still work separately in a few ways:
- Separate rewards. Each card keeps its own rewards program.
- Separate statements. Each card has its own Statement of Account and amount due.
- One app. You can track spending per card and the remaining shared limit in the Maya app.
Landers Cashback vs Maya Black: Which Card for Which Spend?
The idea behind holding both is to match the card to the purchase.
Landers Cashback Everywhere Credit Card
This card earns cashback at Landers Superstore, 2% on dining, and 1% on most other purchases. The cashback can be used for groceries at Landers. The Landers card page shows the Landers rate stepping up from 3% to 4% and 5% as your total card spend reaches ₱20,000 and ₱50,000, so check the current mechanics on the official page before planning around the top rate.
Maya Black Credit Card
This card earns up to 10x Maya Miles at Maya Black Preferred Merchants. The miles can be redeemed for travel and lifestyle rewards, which makes it the better fit for bookings and lifestyle spending.
A simple split: use the Landers card for grocery runs and everyday spending, then switch to Maya Black for travel and lifestyle purchases to stack up Maya Miles.
Who Can Apply for the Second Card?
The Maya Help Center lists these qualifications for any Maya Credit Card:
- Age 21 to 65
- Filipino citizen
- Regular monthly income of at least ₱15,000
- An active and upgraded Maya account
For the Landers Cashback Everywhere card, you also need an active Landers membership. Non-members can still apply by signing up as a Landers member.
One important exclusion: the second-card option is currently not available to Maya Black Express cardholders, and Maya Black Express cards are not included in the shared credit limit.
How to Check If You Are Eligible
Based on media coverage of Maya’s announcement, existing users can check their eligibility and activate their second card within their account settings in the Maya app. I could not find a step-by-step guide on Maya’s official pages as of writing, so the exact menu path may differ on your app version. Open the app and look for the credit card section, or check the Maya Bank website.
Things to Watch Out For
- A shared limit is not a bigger limit. Heavy spending on one card shrinks what is left on the other.
- Landers membership comes with the card. The Landers card is both a Landers membership and a Maya credit card, and the membership renewal fee is auto-charged to your credit card.
- Old terms mentioned a limit reduction. Maya’s 2025 terms said that if you were approved for a second card before the shared limit existed, the bank might manually reduce your first card’s limit and assign that amount to the new card. That wording predates this launch, so read the current terms in the app before applying.
- Approval is not guaranteed. Everything is still subject to the bank’s credit evaluation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I now hold both the Landers Cashback and Maya Black credit cards?
Yes, if you are eligible. Existing Maya Credit Card holders may apply for a second Maya Credit Card with a shared credit limit, subject to the bank’s approval.
Will I get two separate credit limits?
No. Both cards draw from one total limit, and every purchase on either card reduces the same available credit.
Will I get one bill or two?
Two. Each card has its own Statement of Account and amount due.
Can Maya Black Express cardholders use this?
Not at the moment. The second-card option is currently not available to Maya Black Express cardholders.
Do I need a Landers membership?
For the Landers Cashback Everywhere card, yes. An active membership is required, but non-members can sign up as a Landers member when applying.
Which card should I use for what?
Use the Landers card for Landers and everyday spending to earn cashback. Use Maya Black for Preferred Merchants, travel, and lifestyle spending to earn Maya Miles.
Blogger’s Corner
Kuya Well here.
