Kung wala ka pang Pag-IBIG membership, mahihirapan ka sa halos lahat ng Pag-IBIG transactions, from paying MP2 contributions to applying for a housing loan. The key to all of it is your Pag-IBIG Membership ID (MID) Number, a unique 12-digit number that identifies you as a registered member.
Pag-IBIG recently updated its online registration process to include National ID (PhilSys) verification and facial liveness checks, a more secure but also more particular process than before. Here’s what the registration flow actually looks like right now, step by step.
What Is a Pag-IBIG MID Number, and Why Do You Need One
Your MID number is your permanent identifier with the Pag-IBIG Fund. It’s what your employer uses to remit your monthly contributions, what you use to log in to Virtual Pag-IBIG, and what’s required before you can apply for any loan program (MPL, Calamity Loan, SAFE Loan, or Housing Loan) or open an MP2 account.
Without a MID number, none of these are possible. If you’re a first-time jobseeker, most employers will actually ask for your MID number before they finalize your employment contract, so it’s worth securing one even before you land a job offer.
Who Needs to Register
Pag-IBIG membership is mandatory for all employees earning at least ₱1,000 per month, whether you’re in the private sector or government. But you don’t have to wait for an employer to enroll you. You can register on your own if you fall under any of these categories:
- Employed (private or government, even before your first day of work)
- Self-employed or freelancer
- OFW (Overseas Filipino Worker)
- Voluntary member (non-working spouse, student, or anyone who simply wants to start an MP2 savings account)
How to Register Online for Your MID Number
Step 1: Go to the official Virtual Pag-IBIG website.
Visit pagibigfundservices.com and make sure you’re on the correct URL before entering any personal information. Look for the “Be a Member” section and click Register.
Step 2: Register using your National ID.
The portal now verifies your identity through your PhilSys National ID before anything else. You’ll be asked to enter your Last Name, First Name, Middle Name (or tick “No Middle Name”), Name Extension, and Birthdate, then click Proceed. If you don’t have a National ID yet, there’s a separate link for that path, and an option to register by scanning your National ID QR Code instead of typing your details manually.
Step 3: Complete the Live Selfie (liveness) verification.
You’ll go through a face verification check to confirm you’re a real person. The portal shows a photosensitivity warning beforehand since the check uses colored lights on screen. For a good result, use enough lighting, avoid wearing a cap or glasses, and align your face within the frame shown. The system supports hijab-friendly verification. Once you click Start Liveness, this opens your camera for a short live scan.
Important: make sure your name matches your PhilSys National ID exactly. Right after the liveness check, the portal validates the name you entered against your actual National ID record in real time. If there’s any mismatch (a missing middle name, misspelling, or nickname instead of your legal name), it will stop you and ask you to correct it before you can proceed. This is different from older registration methods, where a name mismatch was usually caught later during manual review of your Member’s Data Form (MDF). Now, it’s a hard blocker at this exact step, so double-check this field before submitting.
What happens next:
Based on Pag-IBIG’s general registration process, the following steps typically continue from here, covering your employment or membership category details, contact information, OTP (One-Time PIN) verification through email and mobile, and finally issuance of your Registration Tracking Number (RTN) followed by your permanent 12-digit MID number within a few working days. We haven’t verified the exact screens for this portion of the newest version of the portal yet, so treat this part as a general guide rather than a screen-by-screen walkthrough. We’ll update this article once we’ve confirmed the remaining steps.
The Most Common Mistake: Confusing the RTN with the MID
This trips up a lot of first-time registrants. The RTN (Registration Tracking Number) is a temporary reference number issued once your registration is submitted. The MID (Membership ID) Number is your permanent, official Pag-IBIG number.
They are not the same, and only the MID number should be given to your employer or used in official transactions. If you’re unsure which one you have, check the length: the MID is always 12 digits.
How to Register Through a Branch (Walk-In Option)
If you’d rather register in person, or if you run into issues with the online portal, you can register at any Pag-IBIG branch using the Member’s Data Form (MDF).
- Download and print the MDF, or get one from the branch
- Fill it out completely in block letters, one copy only, printed back-to-back on a single sheet
- Bring one valid government-issued ID and proof of income (not required for first-time jobseekers)
- Submit the form at the branch for processing
Already Registered but Forgot Your MID Number?
If you’ve registered before but lost track of your MID number, you don’t need to register again. You have a few options to recover it:
- Use the “Verify MID No.” feature on the Virtual Pag-IBIG website
- Call the Pag-IBIG Hotline at 8724-4244 (8-PAG-IBIG)
- Send a message to the official Pag-IBIG Fund Facebook page with your full name, birthdate, and RTN
What to Do After Getting Your MID Number
Once you have your MID number, the next step is usually creating your Virtual Pag-IBIG account, which lets you check your contributions, pay online, and apply for loans without visiting a branch. We’ve covered the full walkthrough here: Virtual Pag-IBIG Account Creation Guide.
From there, you can also start growing your savings through Pag-IBIG MP2, or keep tabs on your contributions using our guide on how to check your Pag-IBIG contributions online.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Pag-IBIG registration free?
Yes, registering for a MID number does not cost anything, whether online or through a branch.
Do I need a National ID to register?
The current online portal asks for National ID verification first, though there’s a separate option if you don’t have one yet. Walk-in registration through the MDF at a branch remains available as an alternative.
What happens if my name doesn’t match my National ID?
The portal will stop you right after the liveness check and ask you to correct your entered name. Make sure it matches your PhilSys National ID or PSA Birth Certificate exactly, including your middle name and any name extension.
Is the liveness check safe if I’m sensitive to flashing lights?
The portal itself displays a photosensitivity warning before the check begins, since it uses colored lights on screen. If you’re photosensitive, take this seriously and consider registering via a branch instead.
How long does it take to get my MID number?
Based on Pag-IBIG’s general process, this typically takes a few working days after your registration is submitted, though we haven’t independently confirmed the exact timeline for this newest version of the portal.
Do I need to register again if I change employers?
No. Your MID number is permanent and stays with you regardless of how many employers you have over your working life.
Blogger’s Corner
